Your private lecture-tour begins at the Byzantine jewels
of Venice, St. Mark's Church and
Square. It came to be known as the political and religious
center of the Maritime Republic of
Venice. Since ancient times, this attractive city of
rare beauty has been a place extraordinarily rich in
historical and artistic treasures. We
shall visit the Basilica with its precious mosaics and
the Ducal Palace with its infamous
and well known Bridge of Sighs. We will also see The
Procuratie Palaces, the Napoleonic Wing,
the Clock Tower, the Campanile and the Marciana National
Library.
Centuries ago, the surrounding lagoon compelled Venetians
to build their homes on every inch
of available land.
Due to the maze of narrow walkways, the city center's
square, Piazza San Marco, became a luxury of open space.
Napoleon described it as
'the finest drawing room in Europe'.
You can then decide with your guide whether to include
a tour inside the Doge's Palace, or
continue your walk through Campi and Campitelli to the
Rialto area.
After listening to your lecturer-guide, you will come
to understand why Venice was once
considered La Serenissima Dominante, The Most Splendid
Maritime Republic. The information and
inspirations you will receive will increase your desire
for more Venetian sights, sounds and
secrets.
This tour is for a party
of up to 12 people,
