A 8-hour car and walking tour to explore
the largest island of the volcanic
archipelago known as Lipari

Car pick up at your hotel in Taormina or Messina,
we'll drive towards the town of Milazzo to take
the first ferry to reach the island.
Sometimes called the Aeolian islands as the domain
of Aeolus, celebrated god of the winds in ancient
times, the Lipari islands are a volcanic archipelago
visible from Sicily's easten Tyrrhenian Coast,
easily accessible by ferry or hydrofoil from
Milazzo and also Messina.
The principal islands are Lipari, Salina, Filicudi,
Alicudi, stromboli.
Our guide will be able to recall your attention
towards beautiful sceneries, volcanoes, castles,
thermal resorts, water sports, good fishing and,
of course, some great beaches.
Geologically, this outstanding island is quite rugged,
with deep caverns, steep cliff and splendid views.
Historically, the history of the Lipari islands
mirrors the history of Sicily, when they were
colonized by Greeks in 575 BC.
Your guide will explain you that the Turks attacked Lipari the largest island in 1544. Pirates often sought refuge in the islands over the century.
After lunch in a typical restaurant to taste
the local recipes, you will be escorted to see the main
locality, that takes the name of the island itself:
the town of Lipari, it is a charming community that boasts a largely reconstructed Norman-era church
and a fine archeological museum nearby,
though the archeological park is more interesting.
The oldest part of the castle was built in Greek
times but the 13th century walls that dominate
the structure are naturally more evident.
We'll take our ferry to get back to Milazzo pier
in the afternoon.

The tour is for a party of max 15 people
and it includes car transfers and fluent
English speaking driver-guide.
