The car will pick you up at your hotel
in the areas of Rome, Naples and the Amalfi Coast. You
will be driven to Paestum to see the
remarkable Greek temples. They were made of rough and
solemn stones that embody all of the willpower
and true genius of the Greek civilization. These glorious
buildings represented challenges in this
countryside dominated by the flatness of the sea and
the horizon. The monumental temples have
survived throughout centuries and remain in a fine state
for all to see. They rise beyond the intact
circle of the city walls, and are the most conspicuous
examples
of fortifications in western Greek cities.
Directly in front of the temple dedicated to Neptune
are areas of flowering roses. They
illustrate the tradition of 'biferia rosaria' here in
Paestum. They were celebrated by Virgil and
other Roman poets. These particularly beautiful roses
were also known to and admired by many foreign
visitors. When they were traveling on their Grand Tours,
they were certainly captivated by them
while being exposed to the Greek and Roman civilizations.
On the return to your hotel, we'll travel along the
coast and stop in Vietri sul Mare. It is
here in this small Campanian town, that you will discover
many artisans and ceramic masters. There
are many interesting, unique and wonderfully colorful
ceramic masterpieces that will
fire your imagination.
