A car will pick you up from your hotel in Florence and
drive you to Assisi. Before we arrive
though, we'll first stop in the lower portion of the
city to visit St. Mary of the Angles Basilica,
the enclosed Porziuncola and the thornless bush. Additionally,
there will be the ever present doves
as well as the cave where St. Francis retired for prayer.
Assisi is the home of Italy's patron saint,
St. Francis, as well as St. Claire, Umbria's
patron saint. In this lovely town, you will see frescoes
created by Giotto and Cimabue. You will
have the opportunity to meander through the Basilica
to see its old fashioned chapels. Along the
narrow streets, you will be able to visit numerous artisan
shops and fine art galleries.
You will also visit the upper and lower Basilicas of
St. Francis. There will be time for you
to marvel at Giotto's fresco cycles with their twenty-eight
episodes from the Life of St. Francis.
Our next visit will be to the Basilica of Santa Chiara,
where you will see many relics of her life.
Keep in mind that there will be time set aside for
you to pray beside her embalmed body.
After enjoying a lovely lunch in an authentic Umbrian
restaurant, we'll continue our drive
through the beautiful area of Lake Trasimeno.
We will then reach Perugia, the capital city of the
Umbrian region. This city is extremely
important because of its art and monuments. There is
an important urban outlook that represents the
seat of the major cultural institutions.
Sightseeing will continue on our way back to Florence.
The tour is for a party of up to 8 people,
and it includes private car transfers
and a fluent, English speaking tour-manager.
